immigration
Ahh, it's been a long time since I've blogged. These days hooked on EVE Online piloting spaceships around and playing the market....super complicated MMORPG I'd say, and tactical too! Cancelled my subscription for World of Warcraft as I realised I am really bored of the game. Guess I'm still suited for games that aren't routine.
Anyways, been quite a really mundane week actually, studying, playing EVE and hanging out with my friends...nothing really exciting going on. Thoughts on my mind lately, ever since I am inspired by one of my cousins from Dad's side, Connie. Apparently, her occupation is some head nurse in the UK and well, she got her UK citizenship through naturalisation! Living in big countries is so much fun! Imagine the thousands of things you could explore or do!
I am getting a bit sick of living on this concrete island state-city. I've seen most of the things here and its always the SAME places I go everytime; whether for shopping, eating, recreation....ugh mudane! The size of Manhattan is even bigger than this country!
I've read some articles regarding naturalisation and immigration to the UK/US/Canada and well I am working to it. Studying hard now to snag my ACCA certificate and bam, I could live my new life abroad. No more routine crap and whatnot. My main choices are UK, Canada or the US! Can you imagine being cooped up on a tiny island state-city for your entire life where it's close to a police state!? No wonder more young couples are getting out of here and settling in other countries...
All the best for me I guess.

If it's your wish, then have at it, sir! I live in a boring suburb town where I'm only allowed to leave the house for school. xP At least you can still hang out with your friends lol
Oh, and if you move to America, New York is NOT the best place to live. Too noisy, too rude, and they have a bit of a crime problem. You can if you're just visiting; then it's a blast! But living? Meeeeeh, naaah lol.
Good luck with the emigration stuff, man! :D
I hate to be a damper, but I feel I might have to open your eyes a little before you do something you regret.
Moving to the United States or UK isn't exactly as great as you made it out to be. True, they have greater freedom of speech and such, but you'll face overwhelming racism, especially in states such as New York, California and Washington. Since we're Chinese, we'll probably get discriminated there, with the bulk of the population generalizing you as Communist. Yes, it has happened to people I know. So be careful.
And while Singapore is close to a "police state", it's actually not as bad as America. Sure, you're restricted in education and speeches but you really shouldn't be bothered unless you want to be a politician. And its crime rate is not as high as the States, where people are actually running around with weapons and there are street gang fights out in the streets, complete with machetes, chains and even rifles. Even in the middle of the city, yes, it happens.
I'm not saying America is a terrible place, but I'm warning you so that you'll make a more informed choice and not be so naive and immigrate there just to be "free". Trust me, life is never that simple. Even if you live in a big country, how can you explore it if you haven't got money? Not to mention that might be racial prejudices against you while looking for a job (it's not obvious, but it's definitely there, just more subtle.)
If you wish to immigrate because you hate Singapore (which really isn't a bad place in my opinion), you ought to go China, Hong Kong, Taiwan or even Australia. Yes, there is still racism in Australia, but there's also an enormous growing community of Asian immigrants there.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not discouraging you from moving into UK or US, just informing you so that you won't live there naively and then regret it. And as they say, the grass is always greener on the other side. Singapore may seem horrible to you, but foreigners find it fascinating and comfortable. Just do what you think is right, but find out more information (especially the disadvantages) before jumping headlong into a decision.
Then Canada it is! >:3
I wonder how about those Chinese-immigrants that stayed there. I'm the kind of person that you might label as a "risk-taker". Regret a bit yes, but I'll just move on.
And beside, I have several relatives and friends that are living abroad. Of course there's racism; everyone's racist by nature. Almost a large percentage of the world's population live in countries that have little control over racism. To me, racism isn't that bad; I just shrug it off.
Annnd I've already thought clearly after discussions with several of my friends. Besides, I'm going overseas to study anyways.
annnd oh, it would be Canada UK followed by the US
Well, okay, I'm glad you already know the disadvantages of living abroad and so your decision si entirely up to you. I know a few people who naively believe overseas is a better place and they jump into immigration, only to be disappointed and regretful.
Canada is a good place, much better than America, I heard, in terms of friendliness and racism. Just don't do anything stupid and no one should hate you there.
As for UK you should only go there if you find a well-paying job there, or if you're a fanatical supporter of a football club there (mine is Blackburn Rovers). The standard and cost of living there is extremely high, easily about two or three times that of Singapore. Could be more.
I wouldn't revoke my SIngapore citizenship yet if I were you. I suggest you apply for permanent residency first. Once you've settled down, confirmed it's the place you want to immigrate to, you can then surrender your Singapore passport in favor of the new country. Just advise, you'll never know how much you might need your Singaporean citizenship.
And you're going to serve National Service before studying/living overseas, right?
Yup gotta serve NS first :)
